Sources of Funding
Locating sources of funding to adapt or purchase a new vehicle can sometimes be more of a challenge than selecting the vehicle itself! Success often depends on knowing where to look.
Our Mobility Specialists can help guide you in your search, but it's important that you recognize funding opportunities that could be unique to your circumstances. For example: if you are a veteran, the Veteran Administration may have programs that cover all or part of your expenses, depending on the nature of your disability.
Other state offices, including the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) and Division of Developmental Services, should also be asked to assess your eligibility for additional funding. And, of course, your insurance or workman's compensation policies may include coverage for your type of disability.
Don't overlook other opportunities to further reduce your costs. For example, certain modifications may exempt you from Texas motor vehicle sales tax. Your accountant can address possibilities for income tax credits. In addition, your vehicle's manufacturer may offer valuable rebate or incentive programs that could have a significant impact on the final cost of your vehicle or conversion. The Ford Mobility Motoring Program offers reimbursement for modifications such as alert hearing devices, after-market lumbar support seats or running boards for a new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle. Maximum reimbursement is $1000. Ford Credit Mobility Financing and comprehensive Roadside Assistance are also available from Ford Motor Company.
